According to the stereotype, Essex has more than its fair share of fake boobs and fake tans. But one thing that’s definitely NOT fake about that part of the country is the drama seen on TOWIE.
So say two of the show’s biggest stars, lovebirds Megan McKenna and Pete Wicks, whose troubled relationship has been played out for all to see on the ITV reality show.
The couple appeared on This Morning today to discuss Megan’s blossoming country-music career, but talk inevitably turned to TOWIE.
And when Ruth Langsford mentioned that the show had been criticised for being scripted, Megan and Pete were quick to deny it.
“There’s no script,” insisted Pete, 28. “It’s constructed reality, so it’s real, but you get put in situations you wouldn’t normally be in.”
And Megan, 24, concurred: “All the arguments are real, all the break-ups are real – it’s really stressful.
“People think it’s an acting job, but it’s really our lives.”
Speaking of break-ups, the couple had a well publicised one earlier this year. Indeed, they were supposed to appear on This Morning together back in March, but Megan turned up on her own.

On that occasion, Langsford said: “Pete was supposed to be here today. Can you not be in the same room as him?”
Megan replied: “It’s complicated at the moment with me and him. It’s not the best time for us to be together.”
Happily, though, the pair have patched up their differences in time for the new series of TOWIE, which begins on Sunday.
But that’s not the only thing Megan has on her mind at the moment. The brunette is smashing it as a country-music star.
After appearing in her own music-based reality show, There’s Something About Megan, her first two singles soared to number one and two on the iTunes chart – knocking Taylor Swift off her perch in the process.
And she says Pete is thrilled that she’s doing so well.

“He’s so, so happy for me!” she told the MailOnline.
“He’s filming at the moment and he’s been telling everybody on set! And he rang me straightaway when he saw the first song hit number one.”
