Viewers have accused ITV of “ruining” new true-crime drama A Confession with dodgy camera work.
The six-part series, which got underway last night (02.09.19), tells the heartbreaking story of the investigation into the disappearance of 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan, who went missing after a night out in 2011.
The search leads Superintendent Steve Fulcher, played by The Hobbit actor Martin Freeman, to breaching police protocol – with devastating consequences.

But on Twitter, viewers complained that a promising drama – one handling a sensitive subject matter, given its focus on real-life events – had been “ruined” by a shaky camera.
One viewer complained: “What a shame, really looking forward to #AConfession but ruined by the awful camera work @ITV @itvstudios.”
Another said: “I really tried hard to watch #AConfession but the shaky camera and the random zoom-in-and-out shots really put me off.”
A third wrote: “Why did they do the stupid shaky camera work? Ruined it. #AConfession.”
Someone else put: “Just watched the first five minutes of #AConfession, why is the camera shaking so much? Very disappointing, giving me a sore head @ITV.”
“This camera work is horrendous,” said a fifth, adding: “I can film better when I’m drunk!!!! #AConfession.”

Not everyone was turned off, as some viewers argued there was nothing wrong with the way it was filmed.
One tweeted: “I didn’t notice anything wrong with the camera work? #AConfession.”
Someone else said: “I personally liked the camera work on #AConfession. It made it feel more real. Like a documentary. Honestly, people complaining like they did it by mistake, really?!!! Well done @ITV. Thoughts are with the families.”

At the end of the first episode, members of Sian’s family gathered for a press conference.
The police knew, at that point, that the missing woman had gotten into a car with an unknown person in the early hours of the morning she vanished.
Supt Fulcher was then informed that a colleague and pal, Deputy Chief Constable Ray Hayward (Cold Feet actor John Thomson) – who was at the centre of an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct – had killed himself, and his car partly matched the description of the vehicle involved in Sian’s disappearance.
– A Confession continues on Monday (09.09.19) at 9pm on ITV
