David Walliams tips war veteran to win the show

Singing Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery won the hearts of Britain’s Got Talent fans and reduced many to tears on tonight’s live semi-final.

The 89-year-old wowed the audience and judges with a beautiful rendition of wartime classic We’ll Meet Again.

David Walliams told him: “For the first time this week I can honestly say we may be looking at the winner of Britain’s Got Talent.”

Simon Cowell told the war veteran: “Colin, that was bloody brilliant.

“What I really loved about that was it just reminds everybody what people like you did all those years ago and you’re still standing.

“It was such a sincere performance. Your voice was way better this time than in the auditions.

“I’m so happy you entered the show. I think people right now will be picking up their phones to vote for you.”

Alesha Dixon said: “You have won our hearts and I just know everyone at home is in love right now. You are a true inspiration to many.”

Amanda Holden added: “You and your colleagues and friends are the backbone of this country.”

Viewers took to social media to echo the sentiments, with many admitting Colin’s performance had reduced them to tears.
