Speaking to the Express in May 2023, Will explained the team were introduced to a young boy. But after hearing his story, Will had to take a 15-minute breather outside the barn as he welled up.
“There was a young boy called Jacob who bought in a rickety table and that was the first time I had to take my 10-15 minutes,” the woodwork expert recalled.
“Everyone behind the cameras was crying and it was just something that catches you off guard.” He went on: “Everything is relatable and I think that’s why the show has done so well, because everyone can relate to different stories.”
Jacob’s appearance is not the only one to have had the team and viewers in tears.
Ashley Brooks from Essex had a heartbreaking story to share with Jay Blades and Dean Westmoreland. Ashley bought some baby boots that had once belonged to his mother for Dean to restore. He explained it was his mother’s last link to Ireland, and to her late father.
“The Repair Shop is an absolute delight. Possessions are more than items, they hold the key to the past. Memories that keep the good times alive,” one viewer tweeted at the time. Another wrote: “Five minutes into the repair shop and bawling like a baby.”
