X Factor: The Band viewers divided over new format

It's very different to the usual

Fans of The X Factor were treated to their second spin-off series in a matter of weeks last night as Simon Cowell’s new show, The X Factor: The Band, got underway.

With this latest iteration of his singing competition, the music mogul is hoping to put together a group that could mirror the success of bands like Little Mix, One Direction or South Korean boy band BTS.

But viewers appeared divided over the new format.

On Twitter, some branded the show “crap” and “horrible”, while others called it “pointless” and a “load of rubbish”.

One said: “#XFactorTheBand what a load of crap it was, go back to normal X Factor.”

Another wrote: “So I watched @XFactorTheBand last night and it was horrible. If Simon thinks reviving an old show to make something better than @BTS_twt then he’s solely mistaken #StopXFactorTheBand #XFactorTheBand What a joke.”

Not original, not interesting. Move on.

A third tweeted: “Anyone watching #XFactorTheBand? No, thought not. Outdated, pointless, crap TV. Bin it, ffs, and all of its ilk.”

“I’m sorry but what a load of rubbish!” someone else said, adding: “Clutching at straws! I wanted to flick my peanuts at the telly it was that [poo].”

“Sorry but #XFactorTheBand, not original, not interesting. Move on. #TuesdayThoughts.”

Another viewer admitted to liking the show, but thought it seemed rushed and said it would have been better as a full series – instead of a four-part mini-series.

They wrote: “I am liking @TheXFactorThe Band but I am annoyed that they are rushing it within a week. If you’re going to make an effort in creating a new group then it should be done after Christmas and a full series #XFactorTheBand.”

But not everyone was disappointed with the new series, which some felt had an “old school” vibe and took The X Factor back to its roots.

“Well I enjoyed that,” said one. “The room auditions are always more enjoyable to watch and I’m still intrigued by the focus on putting together two groups.”

Tweeting to judges Nicole Scherzinger and Simon, someone else said: “Loved the show tonight. Great format. Have applied for tickets for the final with the family. Everything crossed.”

Another said of the programme: “It just feels old school and great. Really hope there’s some funny ones too though? Need the shade with the light!”

“This is how #XFactor used to be!” said a third. “For the first time in ages, the show feels good. Then I remind myself, it’ll be over in a week. This should have been a full-blown series! Not sure how successful the band will be, regardless to how great they are #XFactorTheBand.”

The X Factor: The Band follows on from The X Factor: Celebrity.

That series saw a host of famous faces compete against each other as they surprised viewers and judges with their singing skills. It was eventually won by former TOWIE star Megan McKenna.

The X Factor: The Band continues this Wednesday (11.12.19) at 8.30pm on ITV
